Mission/Vision
Suniva’s vision is to redefine the manufacturing processes for silicon solar cells resulting in reducing the cost of PV ownership to meet the costs of conventional grid power. Innovative process changes combined with a reduction in raw materials consumption and enhanced cell efficiency enable this vision to become reality. The Suniva vision is predicated on the premise that for PV to achieve its full potential, eventually without subsidies, the technology must ultimately be cost-effective to compete with base-load electricity pricing, not just peak-load pricing. By helping our customers achieve the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DoE’s) Solar America Initiative (SAI) target of $<1.00 Wp (peak watt) for finished PV modules, the final installed cost for a PV power system with “Suniva inside” will deliver power at the level of $0.12/kW-h.
Suniva’s mission is to implement and execute its proprietary PV Technology Roadmap for achieving high PV device efficiency at low manufacturing cost. By reducing wafer
thickness (~160 microns) while achieving high efficiency (~20%) with low cost processes, dramatic cost reductions are possible. Suniva is now building a large manufacturing facility based upon its proprietary, cost-effective, high-yield processing technology to achieve the goal of bringing silicon PV to 'grid-parity' years ahead of DoE’s schedule.
